Radnice Slezské Ostravy jako vychýlený svorník mezi tradicí a moderností, SPOK, Ostrava 2008.
Předkládaná kniha je prvním svazkem plánované edice „Architektonické ikony Slezské Ostravy“, zaměřené na architektonické památky jednoho z nejvýznamnějších a zároveň opomíjených obvodů Ostravy. Kniha si dává za cíl pojednat téma – vznik radnice Slezské Ostravy – popularizační formou, ovšem s důrazem na odbornost a s tím spojené obrazové i textové pasáže, které by co nejpřesněji přiblížili čtenářům historické skutečnosti a památku jako takovou. V knize proto nalezneme řadu historických fotografií, plánů a náčrtků z fondů Úřadu městského obvodu Slezská Ostrava, Archivu města Ostravy, Ostravského muzea, Národního technického muzea v Praze, ale i ze soukromých sbírek. Kniha byla řešena v netradiční, avšak výtvarně působivé koncepci. Do textu jsou vloženy pauzovací papíry s přetištěnými plány a náčrtky, ale také reprint jednoho čísla časopisu Architektonický obzor se soutěžními návrhy radniční budovy. Knižní forma je završena typografickou úpravou, odkazující na éru secese, a to jak výše zmíněnou obrazovou částí, tak i uplatněním řady grafických prvků té doby. V limitované a číslované sérii na secesní éru upomene hřbet knihy z typického kovu té doby – z mosazi. Publikace nemá pouze pojednávat o výtvarných otázkách, nýbrž má být sama o sobě výtvarným artefaktem. První knížka výše zmíněné edice je tak na světě. Zasloužili se o ní představitelé městského obvodu Slezská Ostrava, iniciátor knihy Tadeáš Goryczka, autor textu Martin Strakoš, grafik Jaroslav Němec a řada dalších, jímž tímto děkujeme. Následovat bude publikace, zaměřená na vynikající památku funkcionalistické architektury – vilu JUDr. Eduarda Lisky ve Slezské Ostravě. Podobně jako nyní křtěná kniha, i zde bude zaznamenán vývoj rodinného domu a vily na Ostravsku od konce 19. století do poloviny století minulého v širších kulturních souvislostech.

Radnice Slezské Ostravy jako vychýlený svorník mezi tradicí a moderností, SPOK, Ostrava 2008.
Ostravskem prošla vlna výstavby nových radnic koncem 19. a v první polovině 20. století. K této skupině patří radnice v Přívoze (nyní sídlo Archivu města Ostravy) nebo ve Vítkovicích, ale také mladší a mnohem větší Nová radnice v centru města, tvořící symbol dnešní Ostravy. Doprostřed pomyslné časové osy mezi výše zmíněné památky lze zařadit vznik radnice ve Slezské Ostravě. Její příběh je příběhem emancipace malé vsi Polské Ostravy (roku 1919 přejmenována na Slezskou Ostravu a roku 1920 povýšena na město) se starobylou historií, ale až do moderní doby s nevelkým počtem obyvatel a s rozptýlenou zástavbou. Do staré sídelní struktury, odpovídající zemědělskému charakteru kraje, v 19. století brutálně zasáhlo uhelné dolování, výstavba průmyslových areálů a na ně navazujících dělnických kolonií. Pro účely reprezentace rozhodně nepostačovala roku 1897 novobarokně přestavěná obecní budova. Proto bylo pod vedením tehdejšího starosty ing. Jana Poppeho rozhodnuto o výstavbě nové radnice na pozemku sousedícím se starou radnicí na Zámostí. Počátkem roku 1910 byla uspořádána obcí architektonická soutěž na pořízení návrhu radniční budovy. Druhým místem pod heslem „Hanna“ byl odměněn návrh architekta Viktorina Šulce z Plzně ve formách pozdního historismu. Výstavba nové radnice proběhla v letech 1911–1913 podle upravených plánů, na nichž se spolupodíleli kromě V. Šulce také vedoucí stavebního oddělení obecního úřadu ing. Jaroslav Volenec, jeho asistent František Doležel a stavitel Julius Vysloužil. Výsledná eklektická podoba radnice je založena na kombinaci forem české novorenesance s jinými historizujícími prvky, doplněnými o secesní tvarosloví, převažující zvláště v interiérech. Ačkoli radnice nepředstavuje převratné architektonické dílo, svým vzhledem a měřítkem tvořila s okolními domy malebný a poměrně vyvážený celek. Zhruba v polovině minulého století se v okolí výrazně projevily účinky poddolování. K destrukci poměrně nového zastavění Zámostí přispěl také urbanistický záměr vést pod radnicí při pravém břehu Ostravice průtah městem ve směru sever – jih. To definitivně rozhodlo o nynějším vzhledu této části Slezské Ostravy. Nyní v radnici sídlí Úřad městského obvodu Slezská Ostrava, který ji využívá především k reprezentaci této důležité městské části třetího největšího města České republiky. Budova sama představuje jednu z mála dobře dochovaných památek na městské ambice a modernizační tendence Slezské Ostravy v první polovině 20. století.
